Inspired By All the Little Things #66 featuring Anita in France

Hello Tracey here and welcome to Inspired By All The Little Things! This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

This week I have invited...

I asked Anita to share a bit about herself...

1.  What is the name of your blog … when and why did you start it.

I blog at My Papercraft World … and started it because I couldn’t figure out any other way to play along with an online paper crafting event that I’d signed up for!  I’d been dabbling in card making for a short while up till then, though hadn’t discovered the amazing, welcoming, warm and outstandingly friendly world of blogland  Once that discovery was made, I was well and truly hooked … and have been making the most wonderful friends, having fun and learning in the five years since!

2.  What is your style of card making.

It’s mostly Clean and Simple … I’m a bit of a minimalist, so the uncluttered look with lots of open space suits me.  Occasionally I’ll throw in a bit of whimsy or some interesting techniques … and though these cards tend to be a little busier than classic CAS, I still like to keep them crisp, fresh and under-embellished.

3.  Who inspires you as a designer.

There are so many … where would you like me to stop??  For a long time now, I’ve loved to watch, be inspired by, and learn from Therese Calvird at Lost in Paper … seems she can turn her hand to anything … her delivery is just so relaxed and easy (even after a stint on night duty!) … and if I could colour even a smidge as well as she can, I would be a happy soul!  I’m also awestruck by the creativity of an eclectic group of designers (naming just a few of the many) … those who share my love of CAS, (Bev, Hannelie, Laura, Laurie), others who use techniques to perfection (Jennifer, Loll, Shirley),  more who make quirkiness and the unexpected into an art form (Cornelia, Darnell, Maria), and those whose designs always have that certain pizazz and je ne sais quoi (Barb G, Marybeth, Michele).  There are more!

4.  What sort of things inspire you as a card maker … photo’s, sketches, other designers.

All of the above … plus colour palettes, adverts, packaging, nature, interiors, textiles, furniture … almost everything I can lay my eyes on!

5.   Share something about yourself we may not know.

I’m probably one of the very few people in the world that doesn’t own a mobile phone … had one for many years in the corporate world … and now really don’t feel the need for one!

The challenge designers have also created a card for this week's inspiration! These ladies just inspire me SO much!!! I hope you will play along with us this week! We would love to have you join us!

Inspired By All The Little Things #65 Featuring Amanda Bodine

Hello and welcome to Inspired By All The Little Things! Veronica here, with big thanks to everyone who played along with our first challenge after the summer break.  This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

This week I have have invited:

I asked Amanda Bodine to share a bit about herself...

1. What is the name of your blog? When and why did you start it?

The name of my blog is RutabagaPieDesigns, named for my Uncle Ned, who called me, "My Little Rutabagapie" when I was a little girl. I felt very special about that nickname he'd given me, it seemed the perfect name for my blog all these years later, in honor of him. In addition, my uncle was a WW2 war hero, awarded the Navy Cross "for heroism beyond the call of duty" during the Pearl Harbor attack.

2. What is your style of card making?

BOLD coloring.. It doesn't seem to matter what type of ink, I just love the look of bright, vibrant color! I enjoy working with nature scenes and florals most. Other than some enamel dots or sequins, I don't tend to add many embellshments.

3. Who inspires you as a designer?

Omgosh, I could list 100 names here. So many designers inspire me all the time! I think the one who's had the most influence on my card making would be Kelly Latevola of You & Your Big Dreams. I'm in awe of her amazing coloring and scene building skills and have learned so much from watching her videos.

4. What sort of things inspire you as a card maker? Photos? Sketches? Other designers?

I get inspired by new product and how design teams create with it. I love to shop and look at home decor and colors that compliment one antoher. And I especially am influenced by the change of seasons. Right now I'm all about those fall colors!

  5. Share something about yourself that we may not know?

Something most people might not know about me is..I LOVE to cook from scratch. In fact, my specialty, at least as far as my friends and family are concerned is homemade pizza. From the flavorful slow cooked sauce to the crunchy thin crust, it has evolved into everyone's favorite. Someday I hope to have my own brick oven, my husband has promised to build for me. Who knows, maybe I'll open a restaurant someday?!

Here is Amanda's card using this week's inspiration!

Shannon's comments: I love Vickie's interpretation of this week's inspiration with her bright and sweet colors choices and the light and bright feel of the card. Beautiful!

My choice as Inspiring Standout is #11 Carol H.

Vickie's card captured the colors and cheerfulness of the inspiration photo perfectly!  Her layout is fantastic and I admire the seemingly effortlessly way her flowers are randomly stamped.  It's a beautiful result that can be difficult to achieve.  Bravo, Carol!

Inspired by All The Little Things #64 featuring Shannon Jaramillo

Hello and welcome to Inspired By All The Little Things! Nance here, with big thanks to everyone who played along with our first challenge after the summer break.  This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

This week I have invited...

Shannon Jaramillo

I asked Shannon to share a bit about herself...

1. What is the name of your blog? When and why did you start it?

My blog name is Shannon Kay Paperie. A little over 5 years ago my upline encouraged me to start blogging as a way to share my card making passion. I have so blessed to meet so many wonderful people who share this crazy fun hobby! I originally started out as EZ Peasy Cards but as time went on my cards weren't really easy peasy anymore (!) so I started to work on a new name and was encouraged to use my name for my blog. Well, Jaramillo isn't an easy name for people to remember so I decided to go with my first name and middle initial "K" and just changed it to Kay because it was prettier. And Paperie, well, that's just a fancy word for paper :)

2. What is your style of card making?

I feel that my style can vary widely, depending on my mood. I can be clean and simple, clean and layered, but then sometimes I throw six different patterns of paper at one card and wonder who took over my body...lol...but I think the one constant is CLEAN.

3. Who inspires you as a designer?

Hmmm, I had to ponder this one. I contemplated whose card designs always make me sigh in admiration for their ability to use different techniques and products while keeping it clean and maintaining the ever important white space. For me those people would be Mary Fish, Hannalie Bester, and Kim Singdahlsen. They inspire me every day.

4. What sort of things inspire you as a card maker? Photos? Sketches? Other designers?

Sketches are a favorite source of inspiration. When I find myself stuck creatively, I go to my secret inspiration Pinterest board and scroll through the thousands of cards, mostly clean and simple, that I have saved there. I don't tend to come out of it with a particular card design in mind, I just feel that I have filled up the creativity jar and I just need to tilt it over and see what spills out :)

5. Share something about yourself that we may not know?

My secret delight is bubble gum ice cream. I know, right?!? But I LOVE it...and I EAT THE BUBBLE GUM BALLS!! Shameful I know. I only indulge once in a blue moon, but sometimes it's nice to take of your adult hat and be free; for a few moments I'm seven again with sticky hands, a blue tongue, ice cream all over my face (metaphorically of course) and totally there in that moment, just me and my ice cream cone. Maybe that's why I like to play with paper and glue so much :)

Here is Shannon's card using this week's inspiration!

Inspiring Standouts for Challenge #63

Thank you all so much for joining us this week for the Inspired By All the Little Things challenge #63!  We loved seeing how you were inspired in all of your creative projects!

I would like to thank Bev Kastman Buenker for being our Creative Guest this week!

Bev and I have chosen the submissions we feel have earned
a special Inspiring Stand Out badge this week!

Bev's choice as Inspiring Standout is #4 - Susie Moore
Susie's card used the peach and mint colors wonderfully!
I love her choices of paper, the scalloped edge die for her focal panel,
and the lovely sentiment and floral sprays.
Her card really captured the essence of the inspiration photo!

***

My choice as Inspiring Standout is #5 - Marcia Hill

Marcia brought the boutonniere flowers back to life with her
free-standing fresh flowers in the same colors as the inspiration photo!
Her border text cleverly brought in that element of the photo
and she tied the whole design together
with a sweet twine bow on her popped up greeting!

Congratulations, Susie and Marcia!
Please go ahead and display the badge on your blog!
Thank you again to everyone who played along with us this week! All the entries were lovely!

We will be back in one hour with a brand new challenge at 5:00 am PST.

Inspired By All the Little Things #63 Featuring Bev Kastman Buenker

Hello! Darnell here to welcome you back to Inspired By All The Little Things after a lovely summer break! First of all, I would like to thank Lesley for this wonderful opportunity to fill in for her so she can enjoy more time with her sweet new baby daughter, Maeley! This is a weekly inspiration challenge blog and each week we feature a wonderful designer who inspires us as an artist!

This week the guest I have invited is ...

I asked Bev to share a bit about herself...

1. What is the name of your blog? When and why did you start it?

The name of my blog is Happy Dance. I guess it's a reflection of my outlook on life. I love the feeling that happiness brings to me and, in turn, to those around me. Making cards does, indeed, make me happy, very happy! In addition to the stamps, inks, papers, and all the other goodies involved with card making, I was delighted to find this incredible community of crafters! My blog made its debut in May of 2012, and I've enjoyed the friends I've made, and the ability to share my creativity with others.

2. What is your style of card making?

My most favorite style of card making would be Clean and Simple (CAS). I love the pop of a color, or an image against all that lovely white space. However, I tailor all my cards to the people I send them to, or if layers are calling my name, I just go with it. If I had to label my style, I guess it would be electic.

3. Who inspires you as a designer?

I'm continually awed by so many card makers. I can't name them all, but a few would be: Anita, Amy, Bobby, Darnell, Hannelie, Jen M., Jen W., Kim S., Leigh, Lynn, Maria, Marybeth, Michele, Natty, Terese, Tracey ... well, you get the idea. It's such a wonderful community, that I often pop over to a gallery, see a card by a card maker whom I haven't 'met' before, and I am inspired all over again!

4. What sort of things inspire you as a card maker? Photos? Sketches? Other designers?

I once saw a graphic in an aquamarine blue and black in a television commercial. The crisp lines and lovely color combination really caught my eye and the next day I made a card with those colors. Inspiration can be found anywhere you look! I do love the sketch challenges, as well as the color and photo challenges. And all those designers out there ... if we stop to think about it, we're beautifully surrounded by crafters who are an inspiration to us with each project they post.

5. Share something about yourself that we may not know?

One thing you may not know about me ... This question stumped me, but here's something you may not already know - I make killer pies! All kinds of pies: fruit pies, cream pies, chiffon pies, and ice cream pies. Any kind of pie you can think of in all the world, I can probably make it. In fact, next month, I've got four grandchildren coming over to learn how to make pies with me! Maybe we should start with my yummy chicken pot pie!
Dinner and dessert all in pie crusts!
[Darnell: And now you know another reason why I love Bev!]

Here is Bev's beautiful card using this week's inspiration!

The challenge designers have also created a card for this week's inspiration! These ladies just inspire me SO much!!! I hope you will play along with us this week! We would love to have you join us!
